Founder & CEO As founder of Longboat Enterprises, Bruce Weiner has earned recognition as a high-energy, results-driven executive. After receiving a B.A. degree from Washington and Jefferson College and a J.D. degree from the University of Kentucky, Bruce joined the national accounting firm of Price Waterhouse as a tax consultant. He gained valuable experience in finance and law, but he was attracted to a more entrepreneurial path, and left to head up sales and marketing at his family’s business, Airway Industries, Inc. Airway Industries, Inc., was started in 1919 by Bruce’s grandfather, a new immigrant to the U.S., and was the manufacturer of Atlantic Luggage and other private label products. In 1979, Bruce joined the leadership of the company, which was beginning to understand the opportunities that existed in international sourcing and supply. In his tenure at the company, Bruce led the import, product development, marketing and sales teams. His experience with Airway led him to recognize an opportunity to sell other sourced goods in the retail market. In 1984, he started Leed’s Business Accessories with his partner, Tom Bernstein. The company grew to $25 million in sales in six years through the sale of business-related items to big box retailers. In the quest to differentiate, Leed’s modified its sales strategy and began selling in the promotional products and advertising specialties market. The dynamic Weiner/Bernstein team grew the business to annual sales of more than $100 million over the next decade. While running Leed’s, he purchased Airway Industries and brought in partners to run the business. Upon the recapitalization of Leed’s through a leveraged buyout in 2000, Bruce launched Longboat Enterprises as a family office and investment management firm, and has developed the business into a conglomeration of varied companies and strategic investments. Bruce and his wife Susan also are responsible for founding two Pittsburgh-based non-profit organizations. Tickets for Kids (TFK) Charities and The Weiner Family Foundation. TFK, now an independent 5013c, is dedicated to enriching the lives of low-income and at-risk children and their families through inclusion in a variety of activities and events that are a source of both entertainment and inspiration. The Weiner Family Foundation is a family-run non-profit organization that provides funding to various local charities with an emphasis on children, cultural events, education and the Jewish community.
